Voigtlander Skopar + Moving Toddler
One of our great photographic frustrations in recent times, has been the lack of proper portraits of our 2 year old daughter. Don’t get me wrong: We have a myriad of snaps documenting every aspect of her adventurous life. But we would love to have some formal, beautifully composed portraits that capture her serene cherubesque beauty.
Alas, Mousey is one of those toddlers who absolutely does not stay still, so this is no easy task - especially as neither of us have any experience in child photography.
I was going to add that neither did we own any autofocus lenses until the Leica CL arrived 3 days ago - but thinking on it, I doubt that matters. The problem is not so much capturing the moment, as getting her to pose in the aforementioned serene and cherubesque manner.
I know. I am being unreasonable, controlling. Expecting the impossible from a toddler.
Although?
These were my first daylight test shots using the manual focus 35mm {50mm-equivalent} Voigtlander Skopar lens. And while Mousey was not standing put or posing exactly, there is more stillness and serenity in these shots than I usually manage to get.
It could be that this camera is less obtrusive than either my DSLR setup or the i-phone. Or maybe it’s just wishful thinking on my part.
In any case, considering these are only test shots on Day 3 of using the camera, I like what I see.
ISO 800, f2.5, shutter speed 1/200.
