Foyle Port Marina
We’ve been going to Derry a lot over the winter break - probably because we are stir-crazy {work does not fully resume till next week} and have exhausted our local forest and beach walks. In a city, even if you walk the same route everything constantly changes; in the countryside it is always the same.
I have been longing to test my newly acquired Summicron-C 40mm lens, and as luck would have it the weather has been so terrible since it arrived it is impossible to take portraits - indoors because it is too dark, outdoors because it is too windy and rainy to ask a person to stand still and pose. So I have been photographing random scenes outdoors.
The 40mm focal length is not quite as versatile as a 35mm, and here I was a bit frustrated that I couldn’t include both the mast and the reflection of the mast, of the boat on the right, in the shot {if I stepped back, there is a railing that got in my way}. But since I have no intention of using this lens for landscape photography, that’s not really a complaint - just something I noticed.
This shot, on the other hand, actually benefits from the longer focal length. So really, I just need to get into the habit of carrying multiple lenses in my bag.
The photos are dark, I know, but they are representative of how dark it actually was. At 2pm. Hopefully brighter days are ahead.
