Top-Twist Beanie
A cozy, slouchy beanie with a twist, this hat is unusual not only in looks but in construction. Worked flat like a very easy scarf, it is then contorted and sewn together in a rather unexpected way. The final result is not only stylish, but serves a practical purpose - allowing
for the option of pony-tails, braids, or buns to protrude from the hidden side-vents.
An extremely simple, but satisfyingly quirky project, the Top-Twist Beanie is suitable for knitters of all skill levels who are not averse to a teeny bit of sewing …and are willing to suspend
disbelief. Because this hat won’t resemble a hat in the least until the ‘plot twist’ at the very end!

SAMPLES INFO.
grey sample:
size 4
made with Apple Oak Fibre Works Quito
(note that this yarn ‘behaves’ like a DK-Aran weight, even though the meterage suggests a chunkier weight; follow the standard gauge & stitch count for your size with this yarn)
pink sample:
size 4 (following the Nutiden-specific stitch count)
made with Honer och Eir Nutiden, held double
(if using Nutiden, 1 plate is more than enough for all sizes)

NOTES ON SIZES & LENGTH
. Please notice that the size range includes baby & child sizes! (Do not mistakenly assume that Size 3 must be ‘Medium’ because it’s in the middle; the adult Medium is Size 4.)
. As stated in the pattern, you can use heavier yarns with this design, or a slightly lighter DK, by altruist st counts slightly. However, I do not recommend going lighter than a light-DK. The twist needs some structure and volume.
. As described in the pattern instructions, length can be adjusted (increased) for a more dramatic slouch. However, I do not recommend shortening the hat; the twist design will not work as a fitted beanie.
