Kitchen Test Shots {1}

Leica CL + Nikon 50mm f1.2

The photos I took in our kitchen at night over Christmas made me wonder about the potential of using that setting as a backdrop. So today we tested the light in the daytime.

There is a long wrap-around window to the left of, and also across from, the subject, so the light source is definitely there. Not sure why I never considered this as a backdrop before; maybe I thought it was too busy. But the background is so dark, it actually works quite nicely.

Although I said that I would put away the Nikon 50mm f1.2 lens, I wanted to try it just one more time, alongside a few other lenses. It is reassuring to see that my focus wide open continues to improve the more I use this lens. But I would prefer for more of the body to be in focus, and to eliminate the bokeh in the background, which I think is distracting for the photos I have in mind. As far as the amount of light, f1.2 is unnecessary in this room in the daytime. So really there is no reason to use this lens here.

It was a stormy day with nothing else to do but hang out indoors, and we made the most of it by exploring the photographic potential of this corner of the kitchen.
