Kitchen Test Shots {3}
Admittedly if my husband tried to photograph me engaging in personal hygiene activities, I would be tempted bash him over the head with a frying pan! So he is a good sport for allowing this.
I am so accustomed to using clothing as an inherent part of portraiture, I found it difficult to compose photos without it. Gary is actually very ‘fit,’ with classic proportions. So it’s only a matter of my needing to better consider the specifics of the male body and figure out how best to pose him. I am not entirely happy with any of these. But for me, there always needs to be that initial photoshoot that elicits that reaction. Then I review it, and decide what I need to do differently next time.
For next time: I think I want the overall perspective of this photo, but with the face turned in the direction of the previous photos {especially the first one}. And the watch needs to go; it’s problematically reflective and overall draws too much attention to itself.
I have tried taking similar shots with the Nikon 50mm f1.2 lens, but did not like the results as much. The Leica Summarit shows off the texture of the skin and facial stubble a lot better, including the freckles and the subtle scars on his forehead - all of which I think adds to the tactile nature of these photos. So when I try these again next time it will be with the same 50mm Summarit. I only need to work on the composition.
