Summer Knitting, Part 1: Patterns for T-Shirts, Tanks, Meshy Beachwear, &More
This time of the year I always receive a flurry of messages asking for ‘summer patterns.’ For reasons I will explain in Part 2 of this topic, I do not tend to focus on summer-specific garment designs. However, I do have a few. And in case it is useful for those who enjoy dedicated summer patterns, I have compiled them here:
T-SHIRTS
Luasc: a V-neck t-shirt with raglan construction. It can be knitted as a basic T, or with a frilled neckline, as well as with 3/4 or full sleeves.
Seaside Disco T: a boat-neck t-shirt with optional button detail at shoulder. It can be knitted in a solid colour or stripes; with capped or long sleeves.
TANKS
Trasnu: a torso-hugging tank top with wide straps that can cross at the back or at the front. Suitable for the beach as well as for sport; the straps will not fall off the shoulders.
Cur: a floaty, relaxed v-neck camisole with a lace panel and the option of a frilled hem. The neckline can ‘filled’ in with lace for different levels of coverage, depending on preference.
BODYSUIT
Sceal Gra: a delicate top with a lace yoke and a bodysuit option. Cap sleeves or 3/4 sleeves.
MESH
Criostal Blouse: a V-neck mesh top with relaxed drop shoulder construction. Cap sleeves or 3/4 sleeves.
Criostal Cardigan: a relaxed, mesh V-neck cardigan. Works well as a beach cover-up, or as a dressy cardigan on very hot days.
JACKETS
J&P Cardigan: a relaxed, nautically inspired crew-neck cardigan. Slouchy but with some structure.
Bluiri: a cropped, fitted, structured scoop-neck jacket.
Needless to say, in order for the things you create from these patterns to be wearable on hot summer days, it is essential to use ‘summer yarns’ - which is to say, either plant based blends (cotton, linen), or fine merino. But more on that in a later post!
With summer already underway, the patterns linked above are fairly quick and simple to knit, especially if you choose the shorter sleeve options - leaving you with plenty of time to wear and enjoy the garments.
