Kitchen Studio is Ready
Today I finally got the opportunity to practice taking portraits in the makeshift ‘studio’ with the curtain up.
I didn’t actually expect to get any usable photos out of this photoshoot, just wanted to test the light and get an idea of possible problems. So these came out better than expected.
Gary rigged up a rope and pulley system, allowing me to lower the rope to any level I need, drape a sheet over it, and raise it again - then easily stow the whole thing away when it is not in use.
I alternated between the Elmar-C 90mm and the Summicron-C 40mm lenses, and this was pretty much ideal.
Fiona was Gary’s neighbour when they were teens, but I only met her a week ago - so I haven’t got a handle on photographing her yet. But considering these were mostly intended as test shots, I am pleased.
The sheet I was using here is actually too short, so I will need a longer one in order to do standing shots, or shots angled upward like this one.
There is also something a bit school-photo-esque about the overall vibe of these, so I need to figure out how to make them a bit more atmospheric.
Unlike most of the others I’ve asked to pose like this, Fiona actually knows how to play the accordion! Perfect.
