Forest Family

Leica M9 + Summarit 50mm f2.5

More forest photos of my mother-in-law, this time with my daughter joining in.

I have a tremendous amount of respect for photographers who specialise in children’s portraits, because honestly I have no idea how they get the children to stay still and look at the camera. I did not manage to get a single shot where both ladies are looking at the camera.

I had better luck getting my husband to stay still, but only just barely. He has a lot of energy!

Mother and Son. Very cute, but both of these need better framing, and colour correction. Okay, I have to keep reminding myself I was only testing the camera.

I do like the portraits it produces with the Summarit lens, and do not find them ‘too clinical’ as some have suggested. I think a lot of that ‘clinical’ vs ‘characterful’ business is quite subjective, to be honest, and depends on factors such as the light conditions, vantage point, perceived narrative and emotionality of the photo, etc., as much as it does on any objective factors.
