Everything Is a Tableaux

Leica CL + Summicron-C 40mm f2

Lately, I have been getting such interesting {= resistant} reactions to my pursuit of tableaux photography, that I have tried to question and assess why I am interested in this genre - and why I keep coming back to it even after trying to be a different type of photographer.

I don’t really have a statement, or a ‘backstory.’ I have just always wanted to create photos that look like scenes out of theatre performances, or films. And the only conclusion I can come to, is that this is simply how I see the world: as tableaux-like; as a series of tableaus.

I have recently noticed that even my spontaneous photos look staged. For instance, the recent ones I posted of the sheep ‘talking,’ and this one above of my daughter. Also, when I look back at my old website - which consists almost entirely of documentary photos - I notice that most of those also look theatrical.

So I suppose that if someone is a street photographer at heart and they attempt to take other types of photos, there will always be something ‘street-photoish’ about them. And likewise, there will always be something tableaux-ish in any photo I try to take, because that is the kind of photographer I am. This is probably the best explanation I can ever come up with!
