Earrings on Trees
In thinking of how to photograph Joanne Doherty’s jewellery, I keep coming back to the idea of tree branches. The jewellery is very organic - both in terms of materials used, and in terms of the forms involved. And so, an organic setting feels the most suitable.
But a forest setting is quite tricky to execute properly. Firstly, the background needs to be quite dark, or else the scene looks busy. The light needs to be just right. And it needs to be a windless day. Getting all three of these factors right, at the same time, is almost impossible. So I am thinking of using this idea, but setting it up indoors. A moss and twig sort of still-life, against a dark backdrop?
It would need to be somewhat elaborate, in order to create depth. But I think I can make it work…
