Beside the Derry Walls, Take 2

Leica CL + Summicron-C 40mm

Is it ever really possible to replicate a photo? Or to take an ‘improved’ version of the same photo?

When I took this original portrait a few weeks ago, I liked the composition but the light was extremely flat. So ever since I’ve been hoping to recreate it in good light. At first I tried to literally pose Gary in the exact same way, right down to the placement of his hands and the camera {originally} around his neck. But something wasn’t working, so instead I approached it as an entirely different photo and got this result.

The light is great. The composition not quite as effective as the original maybe, and I am not sure I like the reflection of the hand on the polished stone surface. But I like the mood.
